The 18-time Grand Slam singles champion said that the cancers were detected at an early stage and that she is preparing to “fight with all” she has. “The double whammy is serious but fixable, and I’m hoping for a favourable outcome,” Navratilova said. “It’s going to stink for a while, but I’ll fight with all I have got.”
Navratilova, who previously battled breast cancer in 2010, will begin treatment in New York later this month. The 66-year-old also revealed that she will not be present at the Australian Open in January as she had previously planned due to her treatment.
Navratilova, who has won nine Wimbledon titles and has become a prominent commentator and analyst since her 32-year career ended, said that she is speaking about her diagnosis to help other women suffering from cancer.
Navratilova was set to cover the event as a commentator, but will now make occasional remote appearances via Zoom instead.
