November 05, (THEWILL) – The National Basketball Association (NBA) is set to examine claims of racism and misogyny levelled against Phoenix Suns managing partner Robert Sarver according to ESPN’s Baxter Holmes.
Sarver’s 17 years as the Suns’ managing partner were chronicled in a report by Holmes, which included multiple allegations of racism and misogyny by Sarver.
On multiple occasions, he is accused of using a racist slur, making remarks about how he did not want diversity on his team, and other racially inappropriate remarks.
He is also accused of making obscene sexual remarks to coworkers, passing around photos of his wife in a bikini, and denigrating women. Several testimonials also claimed that the company is a “toxic and sometimes hostile workplace.”
Sarver has flatly disputed the charges, which were made after Holmes interviewed over 70 current and former Suns employees. Sarver said he welcomed an independent NBA investigation in a statement posted by the Suns on his behalf.
In a previously similar case, after racist statements former Clippers governor Donald Sterling made in a discussion with his mistress were revealed to the media in 2014, the NBA banned Sterling for life. The NBA compelled Sterling to sell the Clippers club, which was bought for $2 billion by Steve Ballmer.
