August 20, (THEWILL) – Thomas Tuchel’s contract extension discussions have begun between Chelsea and the manager at Stamford Bridge.

In January 2021, the German replaced Frank Lampard and initially signed an 18-month contract. That deal was soon extended after Tuchel led the team to an improbable UEFA Champions League victory.

Under new owner Todd Boehly, Tuchel, who once again led Chelsea to a top-four finish in the previous campaign, has been faced with managing a major transformation in the playing roster. Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner are two of the latest high-profile players to leave west London, but Tuchel seems to have the support of the club’s board as evidenced by his announcement that negotiations for a new contract are in progress.

He confirmed it when he said: “My people talk to the owners and take care of everything else. You know how glad I am to be here and how much I like it,” Tuchel told his press conference ahead of the weekend clash with Leeds.

“There are talks, but I think given the situation where we come from, and where we are in the middle of the transfer period, I think it is the very best if I focus on my team and on sports and on being competitive.”
