September 08, (THEWILL) – The Netherlands secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over Greece on Thursday night, in their Euro 2024 qualifying match in Eindhoven.
Despite missing several key players, the Dutch were at their attacking best and were rarely troubled by the Greeks. The home side got off to a strong start, taking the lead in the 17th minute through a Denzel Dumfries assist, finished off by Marten de Roon. Dumfries was again the provider just after the half hour mark, setting up Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo to double the Netherlands’ advantage.
On 36 minutes, the rampant Dutch extended their lead further, with Dumfries once more turning provider for Wout Weghorst to nod home. With full points secured, manager Ronald Koeman was able to give some of his star men a rest in the second period.
The Dutch saw out the match professionally to claim an important three points. The victory lifts the Netherlands into second place in Group B on six points, nine behind leaders, France, who also won on Thursday. The Netherlands now face a tough trip to Dublin to take on Ireland on Sunday.
However, with players like Dumfries and Gakpo in fine form, Koeman’s side will be confident of picking up another positive result on the road to Germany.
