June 04, (THEWILL) – Delta State government has pledged to ensure that this year’s Female Super Six competition in Asaba surpasses all expectations.
Originally scheduled to be held from June 9 to 18, the event will now kick off from June 6 to 11 at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, with teams expected to arrive tomorrow. The change in dates was prompted by the need for Nigeria to meet the Confederation of Africa Football’s (CAF) June 12 deadline for submitting the names of champions from each country for the WAFU Zone B playoffs leading up to the continental Champions League.
Despite the sudden adjustment, Tonobok Okowa, Chairman of Delta Sports Commission, assured yesterday that the state would provide top-notch treatment for the competition. Governor Sherrif Oborevwori, a fervent sports enthusiast, is eagerly anticipating the event and is anticipated to be present to support the teams.
Okowa noted that Delta State, under its new governor, is committed to upholding its reputation for delivering exceptional sporting events. He further highlighted the governor’s previous support for sports during his tenure as Speaker of Delta House of Assembly, which demonstrated his passion for athletics.
The participating teams set to arrive in Asaba tomorrow include defending champions Bayelsa Queens, Edo Queens, FC Robbo, Confluence Queens, Rivers Angels, and the host team, Delta Queens. Notably, Delta Queens secured the state’s inaugural major trophy in 2003 when they emerged victorious in that year’s Female Super Six competition held in Umuahia, Abia State.
