BEVERLY HILLS, May 25, (THEWILL) – Serie A side Fiorentina have appointed Gennaro Gattuso, former coach of Victor Osimhen’s Napoli as their new coach after the Italian was dismissed from the I Partenopei.
Osimhen’s side finished in fifth place because of their own inability to end in the top four places that could have guaranteed them a UEFA Champions League on the final day of the 2020/21 Serie A season. That 1-1 deadlock with Hellas Verona was decisive to knock them off the and seal Gattuso’s fate.
Gattuso was swiftly sacked by Aurelio De Laurentiis as reported by THEWILL. The sacking came through a tweet from the official De Laurentiis account and lasting no more than a couple of hours after the season’s end.
However, Gattuso has landed on his feet and has been given the job at the Stadio Artemio Franchi still in the same Italian League. La Viola were on the lookout for a new coach after the departure of previous coach Giuseppe Iachini.
Iachini himself had been sacked during the 2020/21 season to be replaced by Cesare Prandelli, but personal problems saw the ex-Italy boss leave and Iachini return. Now, Gattuso will be hoping to improve the lot of La Viola when the 2021/2022 season kicks off.
