July 11, (THEWILL) — Newcastle have finalised the signing of Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest for a reported £55 million fee, marking their first major acquisition of the summer transfer window. The 23-year-old winger has agreed to a long-term contract with the Magpies after two successful seasons at the City Ground, where he established himself amongst the English Premier League’s most productive wide players.
Elanga’s impressive 2024/2025 campaign saw him contribute 17 goal involvements for Forest, recording six goals and 11 assists whilst helping Nuno Espirito Santo’s side achieve a seventh-place finish in the EPL. His assist tally ranked third in the division, behind only Mohamed Salah and Jacob Murphy, and represented the highest number by a Forest player in the top flight since Bryan Roy managed 11 during the 1994/1995 season.
The Swedish international made 82 appearances across all competitions during his Forest tenure, accumulating 11 goals and 21 assists since joining the club in 2023. His 31 EPL goal involvements during this period place him second only to Chris Wood amongst Forest players, underlining his consistent contribution to the team’s attacking output over the past two campaigns.
Eddie Howe’s squad will benefit from Elanga’s versatility in wide positions, where he will compete with Anthony Gordon, Harvey Barnes and Jacob Murphy for starting berths. Forest’s summer transfer activity continues to generate attention, with reports emerging that the club are considering action against Tottenham Hotspur over their pursuit of Morgan Gibbs-White. The midfielder was expected to complete a medical with Spurs after they activated his £60 million release clause, but Forest believe Tottenham approached the player without proper authorisation, potentially complicating the proposed transfer.
