January 07, (THEWILL) – Brazilian footballer Neymar has indicated interest in joining former Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez at Inter Miami. The 32-year-old forward, currently at Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal, discussed the potential reunion during a recent CNN interview.
“Obviously, playing again with Messi and Suarez would be incredible. They are my friends, we still speak to each other”, Neymar stated. “It would be interesting to revive this trio. I am happy at Al Hilal, I am happy in Saudi Arabia, but who knows. Football is full of surprises.”
The trio previously created one of football’s most effective attacking combinations at Barcelona, contributing to the club’s treble success. Their partnership ended when Neymar transferred to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 for €222 million, setting a transfer record that remains unbroken.
Since moving to Al Hilal in 2023, for €90m, Neymar has made just seven appearances due to injuries. His current contract expires in June 2024. The Brazilian explained that a move to Inter Miami was not possible in 2023 due to the closed transfer window in the United States when he left PSG.
Looking towards international football, Neymar, Brazil’s leading goalscorer with 79 goals, maintains aspirations for the 2026 World Cup. “I will try, I want to be there. I will do everything I can to be part of the national team”, he said. The forward has been absent from competitive football since October 2023 following an ACL injury.
Brazil currently sits fifth in South American World Cup qualifying standings, with six matches remaining. The top six teams will automatically qualify for the tournament, which Neymar acknowledges could be his final opportunity to win football’s most prestigious trophy.
