November 29, (THEWILL) – After sustaining ligament damage in his ankle during Sunday’s triumph over Saint-Etienne, Neymar is expected to miss six to eight weeks.
Neymar was at the receiving end of a heavy foul late in their 3-1 triumph, and needed to be stretchered off the field, as THEWILL reported.
“Unfortunately, these sorts of setbacks are part of an athlete’s life,” Neymar said on Instagram in a post after the fixture.
“You have to raise your head and move forward. I will come back better and stronger.”
Before the injury, Neymar has three goals and three assists in ten Ligue 1 games for Les Parisiens.
In total, Neymar has 59 league goals and 34 assists in 80 outings since joining PSG from Barcelona five seasons ago.
However, injuries have plagued the 29-year-old, as he has yet to play more than 20 league games in any season since arriving in Paris in 2017. After signing Neymar to a four-year deal until 2025 in September, the latest issue raises even greater concerns.
With Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi, and Angel Di Maria still constituting an exceptional attack, Paris Saint-Germain have enough depth up front to manage the loss.
The club has 40 points from 15 games, and are 12 points clear in first place. Neymar may be able to recover in time for the Champions League round of 16 in February.
