July 05, (THEWILL) – Brazilian authorities have announced that Neymar has been fined a staggering 16 million reais (about $3.33 million) for violating environmental regulations, during the construction of his opulent coastal mansion in southeastern Brazil.

The luxury project, located in the town of Mangaratiba, Rio de Janeiro state, came under scrutiny last month when local authorities raised concerns about the improper use and transportation of freshwater sources, as well as the handling of rock and sand. Confirming the allegations on Monday, authorities stated that the violations primarily stemmed from the construction of an artificial lake within the mansion’s premises.

The environmental body of Mangaratiba released a statement on Monday, shedding light on the specific nature of the environmental infractions committed during the construction of Neymar’s mansion. In addition to the substantial financial penalty, the case has attracted the attention of multiple investigative bodies, including the local attorney general’s office, the state civil police, and the environmental protection office, among other environmental control agencies.

So far, Neymar and his representatives have refrained from commenting on the matter, with a spokesperson declining to provide any official statement. However, the case is expected to undergo a thorough investigation. The involvement of various environmental control bodies, along with the attention of the attorney general’s office and state civil police, indicates the seriousness with which the authorities are approaching the matter.

In addition, the hefty fine imposed on Neymar serves as a reminder that even high-profile individuals must adhere to environmental regulations, emphasising the importance of responsible construction practices and environmental stewardship.
