February 18, (THEWILL) – The Nigeria Football Federation’s Match Commissioners’ Appointment Committee has issued new criteria for interested football stakeholders to complete in order to be considered for the post of match commissioners in the domestic game in Nigeria.
Following its inauguration and inaugural meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, Alhaji Babagana Kalli, Chairman of the NFF Match Commissioners’ Appointment Committee, said that no one above the age of 65 or under the age of 30 will be considered for the position.
“In addition, we have now expunged the names of all retired referees from the list of match commissioners. Means of identification would now be by international passport, national identity card or driver’s license, and computer literacy is now a key requirement for anyone who wishes to be considered for the role of match commissioner in Nigeria.”
The NFF’s first vice president, Barr. Seyi Akinwunmi, who stood in for the NFF president at the inauguration, charged the committee with developing workable criteria to drastically reduce the number of match commissioners in the country, as the NFF considered the current number bloated and impracticable given the number of matches played in a season.
The duties of the referee and match commissioner are the most important in the general management of a football game, according to Akinwunmi, and administrators must constantly attempt to enhance the policies and techniques by which the best hands emerge, making sure they are properly equipped for both tasks.
“We must also select the very best hands for these important roles without any form of primordial sentiments,” Akinwunmi noted.
The chairman of Nigeria Football’s Chairmen, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, and the chairman of the Referees Committee, Alhaji Sharif Rabiu Inuwa, were also present during the inauguration.
Timothy Henman Magaji, Bayo Olanlege, Sunday Longbap, Yabagi Baba, Aminu Manmaga, Sabo Abdullahi Dutse, Greg Abang Obuh, Kenneth Nwamuocha, Maurice Mbam, and Donald Mbaezue are members of the Match Commissioners Appointment Committee, which is chaired by Alhaji Ganiyu Majekodunmi. Also, another member of the NFF Executive Committee, Danlami Alanana, is the secretary of the committee.
