March 31, (THEWILL) – The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has relieved the Super Eagles’ coaching crew of their jobs, even as Augustine Eguavoen, the team’s Technical Adviser, stepped down with immediate effect following the Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
THEWILL recalls that the Super Eagles were held to a 1-1 draw by the Black Stars, after a goalless stalemate in Kumasi, putting an end to Nigeria’s hopes of competing in Qatar 2022.
As a fallout from that unsatisfactory outcome, the NFF has revoked the two-and-a-half-year contract offered to the Super Eagles’ coaches and immediately cancelled the appointment of the team’s entire technical staff.
The nation’s football governing body also revealed that after a thorough examination, a new crew will be named to spearhead the effort of reviving the Super Eagles and preparing them for future challenges.
A statement from the NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, effecting these actions expressed gratitude to all those affected: “We thank the coaches and team officials for their service to the nation and wish them success in their future endeavours.”
