October 29, (THEWILL) – Former UFC heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou, believes the split decision victory awarded to Tyson Fury in their boxing bout on Saturday, was the wrong call. Speaking after the fight, Ngannou expressed confidence that he had done enough to deserve the win. He called the scoring a “bad look for boxing” and said the judges “should be sanctioned”.
Many fans agreed with Ngannou’s assessment, taking to social media to argue he had clearly out-boxed Fury over the 10 rounds. But despite feeling he was robbed, Ngannou said he was at peace with the result, proud of his performance on his boxing debut following his departure from UFC.
Pre-fight, Ngannou predicted he would not get the decision if it went to the cards. After the controversy, he reiterated this view, saying he “wasn’t surprised” by the outcome. Ngannou now wants to run the bout back, anticipating a rematch with Fury down the line once the Briton fights Oleksandr Usyk.
Before returning to boxing, Ngannou plans to compete in MMA again, floating a switch to the PFL for some fights. He wants to be back in the ring within five to six months after nearly two years away. Regardless of whether it is MMA or boxing next, Ngannou retains motivation after his creditable display against the world champion.
While disappointed by the judges’ scoring, Ngannou said the Fury fight has only increased his hunger for boxing. He is confident that he and Fury will meet again to settle the score.
