May 21, (THEWILL) – Francis Ngannou has hit back at UFC president, Dana White’s critical remarks, following his decision to sign with the Professional Fighters League (PFL), marking his return to mixed martial arts.
THEWILL recalls that White expressed his confusion over Ngannou’s PFL contract, stating that “it makes no sense” to him, and accused the former UFC heavyweight champion of being risk-averse and unwilling to take chances.
Ngannou, however, fired back at White’s comments, asserting that he is finally receiving the compensation and respect he deserves. Taking to Twitter, Ngannou addressed White directly, pointing out that he fulfilled his UFC contract obligations and opted to become a free agent. He also mentioned his willingness to fight and emphasised that he had always been open to any bout during his time with the UFC.
Ngannou expressed his satisfaction with his new deal, highlighting its fairness and equality for all parties involved. In his move to the PFL, Ngannou secured a lucrative agreement, including the potential for two or three fights, with each bout offering him a substantial seven-figure purse. Additionally, he has been granted various incentives, such as a share of event profits and a chairman title for the PFL’s future expansion into Africa.
Ngannou’s decision to leave the UFC and negotiate on his own terms has paid off handsomely, demonstrating his desire for fair compensation in an industry where fighters often struggle to receive their true value.
