August 31, (THEWILL) — Nigeria has named its squad for the 2025 World Athletics Championships taking place in Tokyo. The contingent features male and female competitors spanning multiple track and field disciplines.

This selection will carry the nation’s hopes in the global competition.

The men’s sprint events include Kanyinsola Ajayi and Israel Okon for the 100 metres, with Udodi Onwuzurike competing in the 200 metres.

Samuel Ogazi and Chidi Okezie have been chosen for the men’s 400 metres. Nathaniel Ezekiel will tackle the 400-metre barriers event.

Field events for men feature Charles Godfred in the long jump and Chukwuebuka Enekwechi in the shot put.

The women’s squad includes Rosemary Chukwuma for the 100 metres and Oluwatobi Amusan for the 100-metre hurdles. Two athletes, Ese Brume and Prestlina Ochonogor, will compete in the women’s long jump.

Women’s throwing events have strong representation with Chioma Onyekwere and Obiageri Amaechi both selected for the discus.

Oyesade Olatoye completes the throwing contingent in the hammer event. The selection spans various athletic disciplines from sprints to field events.

The team heads to Tokyo with considerable depth across multiple events. Nigeria’s athletes will face stiff international competition when the championships begin.
