March 16, (THEWILL)- Nigeria has reclaimed second position on the medal table at the ongoing African Games in Ghana, after a successful Day 8. The West African nation won one gold, five silver and one bronze medal, propelling them ahead of South Africa and Algeria.
Despite their recent dip to third place after Day 7, Nigeria’s performance on Day 8 saw them amass a total of 86 medals, comprising 23 gold, 18 silver and 20 bronze. This resurgence has pushed South Africa down to fourth position, having failed to secure any medals on the pivotal Day 8.
Algeria has also made significant strides, climbing to third place on the medal table. However, Egypt continues to dominate the Games, leading with an impressive haul of 134 medals, including 76 gold, 31 silver and 27 bronze.
Elsewhere, Tunisia has maintained its fifth position, while Mauritius, Eritrea, Madagascar, Morocco, and Cameroon round out the top 10. Notably, the host nation, Ghana, still finds itself in 16th place, with a modest tally of one gold, three silver and one bronze medal.
As the African Games continue to unfold, all eyes will be on the performances of the participating nations, with Nigeria aiming to further solidify its position and potentially refusing to be dislodged from behind Egypt’s supremacy.
