March 04, (THEWILL) – Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening diplomatic relations with the United Kingdom as part of efforts to deepen strategic partnerships across key sectors.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, made this known during a three-day high-level visit to the UK, where discussions focused on trade, investment, technology, media, and academia.
A statement issued on Tuesday by Kimiebi Ebienfa, Acting Spokesperson for the ministry, highlighted that the visit, which began on March 3 and concludes on March 5, aligns with Nigeria’s broader foreign policy objectives under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Speaking on the visit, Tuggar described it as a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s foreign policy, aimed at reinforcing economic diplomacy, strategic partnerships, and regional security cooperation.
He stated that Nigeria seeks to consolidate its longstanding relationship with the UK, explore new economic frontiers, and reaffirm its commitment to regional peace and stability.
He further noted that the engagement reflects Nigeria’s determination to translate diplomatic efforts into tangible economic and security benefits for its citizens.
As part of the visit, Tuggar is scheduled to participate in high-level discussions at Chatham House, focusing on Nigeria’s evolving foreign policy and global aspirations.
He will also engage with stakeholders at the House of Commons to discuss Nigeria’s economic diversification, investment climate, and digital transformation.
At BBC House in London, he will meet with key media stakeholders to outline Nigeria’s foreign policy priorities and global positioning.
In addition, he is expected to hold discussions with JP Morgan and British International Investment (BII) on financial and economic cooperation, capital flows, and investment promotion.
Tuggar will also meet with senior UK government officials to enhance security cooperation and intelligence-sharing on counter-extremism and regional instability.
His engagements will further include strengthening collaborations in education, research, and technology between Nigerian and UK academic institutions.
According to the statement, the visit is expected to expand business and investment opportunities, support economic growth and job creation, and foster a more robust diplomatic alliance between both nations.
