September 08, (THEWILL) – The Super Eagles and the A Seleção will play an international friendly on November 17 at the Estádio José Alvalade, in Lisbon, according to a written agreement between the Nigeria Football Federation and Federação Portuguesa de Futebol.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria have won the Africa Cup of Nations three times (as well as the gold, silver, and bronze medals in men’s football at the Olympics), while Portugal won the Euro Championship in France in 2016, defeating the host nation of France 1-0 in extra time at the Stade de France. Greece defeated A Seleção in the 2004 Euro Championship final as the hosts.
The match with Portugal is another high-profile friendly for the Super Eagles and will follow the friendly against Algeria, the 2019 African champions, which is already scheduled for September 27 in Oran.
Previously, the Super Eagles have played against five-time world champions Brazil, Argentina, England, Ukraine, Senegal, Mexico, Serbia, Poland, Cameroon, Czech Republic, Tunisia, Ecuador, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Mali.
Although the Super Falcons and the Senior Women Team of Portugal battled to an exciting 3-3 tie in the USWNT Summer Series in Houston, Texas, USA, last summer, it will be the first senior men’s level meeting for both nations.
