Bashir Ahmad, President Muhammadu Buhari’s Personal Assistant on News Media, has reacted to Nigeria’s Super Eagles’ TotalEnergies 2021 Africa Cup of Nations defeat to Tunisia in Cameroon on Sunday.
As THEWILL reported, the Super Eagles were eliminated from the Cameroon competition after losing 0-1 to the Tunisian Carthage Eagles. Maduka Okoye’s goalkeeping blunder handed the North Africans the lead just minutes into the second half.
In response, Ahmad stated that Ghana would pay the price for the Super Eagles’ defeat because, according to a tweet by the presidential assistant, Nigeria cannot afford to miss the World Cup in Qatar later this year.
Ahmad implied that the World Cup playoffs will be the perfect opportunity for the Super Eagles to avenge their AFCON defeat by making sure to defeat Ghana and qualify for the biggest football event in the sporting calendar.
The tweet read: “A severe revenge will surely be taken on Ghana in the upcoming World Cup playoffs. We can’t afford to not be in Qatar.”
Nigeria is attempting to qualify for the World Cup for the seventh time, having missed only one of the seven editions since 1994. Ghana’s third and final appearance came in 2014.
Ghana’s Black Stars will play against the Super Eagles at home first, with both legs taking place between March 21 and 29, and the aggregate winners earning a spot in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
