August 24, (THEWILL) – Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, has completed a transfer to Saudi Arabian Professional Football League club Al Khalood.
The Nigerian defender signed a two-year contract with an option for an additional year, joining from Greek Super League champions PAOK Thessaloniki.
Troost-Ekong spent one season at PAOK, helping the team win the league title. The 30-year-old becomes Al Khalood’s sixth summer signing as the club prepares for its first season in the Saudi top flight after gaining promotion last season.
The transfer was announced on Al Khalood’s social media platforms, confirming that Troost-Ekong will play for them in the 2024/2025 Saudi Pro League season. Before joining Al Khalood, the defender shared a farewell message on social media, thanking PAOK Thessaloniki FC for his time there.
In his message, Troost-Ekong expressed gratitude to the fans, management, and teammates for his experience during his brief stay. He mentioned the “unforgettable championship and special European nights” he enjoyed with the Greek club.
Troost-Ekong’s move to Saudi Arabia follows a successful period in his career. He led Nigeria to a silver medal at the recent African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire, where he was named the tournament’s best player after scoring three goals.
