BEVERLY HILLS, October 05, (THEWILL) – Falz, Runtown and Naira Marley and other celebrities have added their voices to the call to disband the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit of the police force as well as other units that have gained notoriety for extortion and harassment of citizens.
THEWILL recalls that the Inspector-General of Police Sunday ordered the tactical units off the streets following renewed outcry from the public including Vice President Yemi Osinbajo after a video surfaced of an incident in Ughelli, Delta State, where a young male sustained injuries following his encounter with policemen.
Falz, a musician and social critic, expressed sadness of the unending tales of woes of Nigerians in the hands of policemen and berated President Muhammadu Buhari for his inaction on the development.
He wrote: “Makes me sick to my stomach, that till now, we are still waiting for a single word from our so-called president on this SARS menace. Ready to enter the streets,” the musician wrote.

“By far the MOST insensitive government ever in our history. Unbelievable. Just always so absent.
“Been ready since. We have to move in numbers. They cannot kill everybody. Why we dey fear to protest? They may kill us? Are they not killing us already?? I’m every way possible!!!”
Also, another popular musician, Runtown, who volunteered to lead the protest against police brutality and harassment at the Lekki toll gate on October 8, said:
“This has gone long enough and now we MUST take action! I’ll be leading a protest to #ENDSARS on Thursday, October 8th 2020. They MUST listen to us, they MUST make/effect REAL and VISIBLE changes! Empty promises won’t work this time!!!,”
Controversial singer, Marley is also eager to lead the protest and he says that he may end up in Kirikiri prison after the protest.
He wrote: “In this country, We love protesting on Twitter That’s d problem. Enough is enough. They won’t listen. You know why? Me neither,” the 26-year-old wrote.
“All I’m saying is we need to stop protesting on Twitter because that’s all we’ve been doing. We need to protest in real life, just say you’re scared and you will rather tweet from home.
“If y’all want me to lead D protest I will lead but just know that they will send me to kirikiri prison this time. So who’s organising? What date? Where are we meeting?
“Noooooo seriously though. Jokes apart… why shoot someone that’s not carrying a weapon? Can’t u just arrest them and take them to the station? Protesting is never a disturbance of the peace.

Singer Olamide also joined the conversation saying that the issue of SARS has become tiring.
He wrote: “Police brutality is skyrocketing by the day And the Nigerian government is neither deaf nor blind, they see all the trends and tag along with whichever one they like,” he wrote.
“You don’t have to like this one to do the right thing. Hashtags are becoming tiring. The people are sick of it. The greatest patriotism is to tell your country when it is behaving foolishly, viciously.
“This is not the time to point fingers, who the fuck is protesting, and who is not. It’s time to collectively stop fighting each other and demand good governance.
“Nobody deserves to be killed for nothing by the people that are meant to protect them. Don’t ignore people when they need you and come back talking about the people being the problem of Nigeria.”
