August 18, (THEWILL) – Villarreal’s Samuel Chukwueze is set to have the company of compatriot in his side with the confirmation that the La Liga club have acquired the services of Nigerian-Dutch forward Arnaut Danjuma on a five-year deal for about €20m.
The Yellow Submarines, who are UEFA Europa League champions, won the race to acquire the signature of the player of Nigerian descent warding off challenges from clubs in the English Premier League like Aston Villa and Liverpool.
It brings speculations about which club side and which league Danjuma was going to end up playing in for the next consecutive seasons to an end with all the transfer rumours that were swirling around him since the transfer season began.
Born in Lagos in 1997, the striker established a goal-scoring reputation for himself in the 2020/2021 season in the English Football League (EFL) Championship with AFC Bournemouth, finding the net 17 times in 35 appearances.
The versatility of the 24-year-old’s skills allowed him to shine in all positions of attack that he played in for the Cherries, although his more favoured position involved moving in from left side of attack towards the target: the opponent’s goal.
With Chukwueze attacking from the right, the linkup play from both Nigerians will help to further the attacking ambitions of the Unai Emery side to improve on their 7th place finish from last season while performing better in Europe.
Danjuma was born to a Dutch father and a Nigerian mother and has previously featured for the Dutch youth national team. He has also played twice for the senior team. However, according to FIFA rules, he can still switch allegiances to the Super Eagles should that be considered necessary.
