April 08, (THEWILL) — In a major boost for Nigeria’s trade and supply chain, the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has confirmed that 41 vessels carrying petroleum products, food items, and other essential goods are scheduled to dock at Lagos ports this week, signalling a steady flow of imports crucial to the nation’s economy.
According to the NPA’s Daily Shipping Position obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the ships are expected between April 8 and April 14, with 24 container vessels loaded with assorted goods and 17 bulk carriers transporting sugar, fresh fish, salt, gypsum, wheat, aviation fuel, diesel, naphtha, gasoline, and gas oil.
Already, 16 ships and tankers carrying general cargo, wheat, diesel, aviation fuel, petrol, gasoline, blend stock, containers, crude oil, fertiliser, and fresh fish, have arrived and are awaiting berthing at the Lekki Deep Sea Port, Apapa, and Tincan Island Port.
THEWILL further gathered that 21 ships are currently discharging vital cargo, including urea, base oil, fresh fish, soya beans, gas, and fertiliser, reinforcing steady supplies for households, industries, and businesses across Nigeria.
Industry analysts have hailed the development as a positive signal for trade and market stability, noting that the timely arrival of petroleum products and essential commodities is expected to stabilise prices and strengthen the supply chain.
