December 08, (THEWILL) – Eddie Nketiah scored in Arsenal’s 3-0 victory over Lyon in the Dubai Super Cup, demonstrating to Mikel Arteta, that he is prepared to step up and fill the vacuum left by the injured Gabriel Jesus.
Defender, Gabriel Magalhaes, gave the English Premier League team the lead with a spectacular header and Nketiah doubled the advantage three minutes after the half-hour mark. Fabio Vieira’s magnificent curled effort added the finishing touches to an effective performance.
As it was the Dubai Super Cup with customary penalty shootout to follow the full-time whistle, Arsenal’s 20-year-old goalkeeper, Karl Hein, then stole the show by saving four of Arsenal’s penalties to earn them an extra point.
Matt Smith and Marquinhos scored from the spot for Arteta’s team, which kicked off the competition in fine fashion.
As part of the competition, Aston Villa and Brighton drew 2-2 in Dubai, thanks to two goals each from Danny Ings and Deniz Undav. Liverpool will take on Lyon on Sunday, while Arsenal’s next game is on Tuesday, against AC Milan.
