August 30, (THEWILL) — Christopher Nkunku has completed his move from Chelsea to AC Milan, signing a five-year contract with the Serie A club. The French striker’s transfer is valued at €42 million (£36.2 million) with an additional sell-on clause included in the agreement.
The 27-year-old forward endured a difficult spell at Stamford Bridge following his 2023 arrival from RB Leipzig. Nkunku scored 18 goals across 62 appearances for Chelsea, though he did contribute to their Club World Cup triumph by featuring in six of seven tournament matches.
Milan had been evaluating several attacking options, including Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface, who underwent a medical examination, and Sporting CP’s Conrad Harder. However, Nkunku became their primary target and was confirmed as their new signing on Saturday, one day after Milan defeated Lecce 2-0 for their first Serie A win this season.
The France international becomes Milan’s eighth summer acquisition, joining recent arrivals Luka Modric, Samuele Ricci, Ardon Jashari, Pervis Estupinan, Koni De Winter, Zachary Athekame and Pietro Terracciano. Nkunku had been excluded from Enzo Maresca’s opening two English Premier League squads despite reported interest from Bayern Munich and his former club Leipzig.
Chelsea may face further departures before the transfer window closes, with Nicolas Jackson reportedly close to joining Bayern Munich on loan. The German club expects to finalise Jackson’s temporary move before Monday’s deadline day.
