January 12, (THEWILL) — The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has issued a firm warning to state coordinators of the party’s ongoing nationwide electronic membership registration exercise, declaring that any coordinator who fails to ensure full member capture will be removed from their position.
Yilwatda gave the directive on Monday, January 12, 2026, during a meeting with state registration coordinators at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.
The coordinators, who are primarily the state organizing secretaries, are overseeing an exercise that began in December 2025 and is scheduled to conclude on January 30, 2026.
Addressing the meeting, the APC Chairman stressed that the role is a serious responsibility aimed at strengthening the party’s credibility, not a ceremonial title.
“If any coordinator does not get all members registered in his or her state, we will drop you and appoint another person. The position you occupy is an opportunity to make the party better,” Yilwatda said.
He warned against discrepancies between claimed party membership and actual electoral performance, insisting that the era of inflated figures must end to ensure internal processes remain reliable.
As part of these enforcement measures, the Chairman announced that any State Executive Committee member who fails to register by the January 30 deadline will be removed from office.
Yilwatda also clarified that no individual, regardless of their status, has the authority to block a member from the digital register.
“No Chairman, no Coordinator, and not even a Governor has the power to stop any party member from being registered. No one must be disenfranchised,” he warned.
To ensure speed, coordinators were directed to use Android phones where tablets are unavailable to avoid delays.
Yilwatda revealed that Delta State is currently leading the registration drive, followed by Lagos, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Plateau. A formal progress review for all other states is scheduled to take place within the next five days.
The electronic registration is the first of its kind for a major political party in Nigeria, designed to provide a real-time, verifiable database.
