June 05, (THEWILL) – Prior to Nigeria’s participation at the Commonwealth Games to be held in Birmingham from July 28 to August 8, the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) met with the British High Commission to ensure smooth visa processing for the country’s contingent.
At the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) building in Abuja, NOC President, Engr. Habu Gumel, met with political consultant, Jonathan Bacon, to confirm that no Nigerian athlete going for the Games would face visa issues, if they met all of the relevant conditions and submitted their applications by the deadline.
Gumel, speaking after the meeting, said: “We have received all the guidelines concerning visa processing for our continent and all our questions have been answered. We are going to immediately start processing our visas so that our contingent will have their visas in time for us to participate in the Games and make our country proud.”
Bacon stated that the British High Commission was willing to work with the NOC to ensure that the Nigerian squad received their visas without a hitch. Banji Oladapo, the Secretary General of the NOC, was also present and thanked the British High Commission for their cooperation and assurances.
