December 14, (THEWILL) – A second COVID-19 case has been discovered in Norwich City’s squad ahead of their Tuesday night league game against Aston Villa.
Christos Tzolis had already been ruled out of the squad before Saturday’s 1-0 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford after testing positive last week.
He has now been joined by another player as Norwich continue to deal with more symptomatic players who are either awaiting the results of their PCR test or have tested negative but are still feeling unwell.
Dean Smith, Norwich manager, said: “It’s been a tough few days. We’ve had a few COVID-related drop outs and had to name the team quite late. We asked for a bit of Premier League guidance (over postponing the fixture) but we’ll keep battling through and do what we can to maintain our high standards.”
Josh Sargent, Lukas Rupp, and former Nice captain Pierre Lees-Melou have been left out of the team for Tuesday’s match.
These fresh COVID-19 outbreaks have seen Norwich’s two prior opponents postpone their next game after facing Dean Smith’s team.
Before Spurs 3-0 triumph against Norwich at their home ground, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday, December 5, the Antonio Conte side already had cases in their camp. A spike in cases was confirmed two days later, forcing them to postpone their Sunday trip to Brighton.
Manchester United followed suit following Saturday’s victory at Carrow Road, with the game against Brentford on Tuesday night getting called off last night.
