July 12, (THEWILL) – Nottingham Forest’s full-back, Harry Toffolo, has been charged by England’s Football Association (FA), for alleged misconduct involving the association’s betting regulations.
The FA announced on Wednesday, that Toffolo faces 375 alleged breaches of the rules, which occurred during the period from 2014 to 2017. At that time, Toffolo was associated with Norwich City and had loan spells at various clubs including Swindon Town, Rotherham United, Peterborough United and Scunthorpe United.
According to an official statement from the FA: “It’s alleged that the defender breached FA Rule E1(b) 375 times between 22 January 2014 and 18 March 2017. Harry Toffolo has until Wednesday 19 July 2023 to provide his response.”
Despite the allegations, the 27-year-old Toffolo made 19 appearances for Nottingham Forest during the 2022/2023 season, contributing to the team’s successful battle against relegation and ensuring their place in the top flight.
THEWILL recalls that in a related incident, Ivan Toney, the striker for Brentford and England, received an eight-month ban from football and a fine of £50,000 ($64,920) in May, after confessing to 232 breaches of the FA’s betting regulations. If Toffolo’s case is proven, there is every likelihood that he will get a stiffer penalty than the eight months the FA slammed on Toney and a steeper fine.
