March 02, (THEWILL) – Kano Pillars defeated defending champions Enugu Rangers 2-1 in a Nigeria Premier Football League match held at Sani Abacha Stadium on Sunday. The fixture saw both teams competing fiercely for points to improve their standings in the league table.

Enugu Rangers took the lead in the the 33rd minute through Bashiru Usman, putting pressure on the home side.

Kano Pillars managed to equalise before half-time when Rabiu Ali found the back of the net to bring the score to 1-1 and see both teams head to the dressing rooms level.

The second period remained competitive with both sides creating opportunities but failing to convert them.

The decisive moment came at the hour mark when Jerry Alex scored what proved to be the winning goal. Earlier substitutions in the 54th minute, including Mustapha Umar and Charles Eze, had already strengthened the home team’s attacking options.

The loss sees Enugu Rangers remain outside continental competition places in fifth with 41 points while Kano Pillars leapfrog them to take fourth place in the standings.

The result continues a pattern of intense competition between these two clubs, following a previous encounter on 16 October 16 last year, when Kano Pillars won 4-3 against Enugu Rangers in Enugu.

The outcome of this match keeps Kano Pillars in contention for a higher finish as the 2024/2025 NPFL season progresses.
