October 10, (THEWILL) – The Nigerian Professional Football League has issued a stern ultimatum to several clubs regarding outstanding financial obligations and contract breaches. The affected teams have been given until Monday, October 14, to address these issues or risk having the licences of their newly signed players revoked indefinitely.
This directive comes after an initial grace period granted by the Nigeria Football Federation Players Status Committee, which extended the deadline to Friday, October 11. The NPFL has made it clear that any club failing to resolve its cases by the new deadline will face immediate consequences, with player licences being withdrawn until all matters are settled.
Among the clubs implicated in these complaints are Heartland, Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), Bendel Insurance, Kwara United, Lobi Stars, El-Kanemi Warriors, Abia Warriors, Enyimba, Katsina United, and Akwa United. The issues range from overdue payables to unresolved arbitration cases involving coaches, players, and other staff members.
Heartland FC appears to be facing the most extensive list of complaints, with allegations from Coach Kennedy Boboye and several players, including Ezekiel Bassey and Stephen Chukwudi. Other notable cases include Sikiru Alimi’s dispute with 3SC, and Enyimba’s unresolved arbitration with Stephen Chukwude and Chijioke Akuneto.
The NPFL’s decisive action underscores the league’s commitment to financial fair play and contractual integrity. This move is likely to have significant implications for the affected clubs as they continue in the 2024/2025 season, potentially impacting their squad compositions and overall competitiveness.
