March 02, (THEWILL) – Liverpool claimed a last-gasp 1-0 victory away to Nottingham Forest on Saturday, courtesy of a 95th-minute winner from Darwin Nunez. The result sees Jurgen Klopp’s side move four points clear at the English Premier League summit as they target further honours this term.
In an end-to-end affair, both sides crafted openings in a frantic opening half hour. Former Reds forward, Divock Origi, drove just wide for the home side, prior to Forest keeper, Dean Henderson, thwarting Luis Diaz from close range. Liverpool slowly took control as the interval approached, though the scores remained goalless at the break.
The second period followed a similar pattern, with Andy Robertson rattling the woodwork for the visitors. Anthony Elanga then wasted a golden chance for Steve Cooper’s men, before Nunez dramatically broke the deadlock with a last-gasp header deep into added time to snatch the points.
The result leaves Liverpool well-placed in their pursuit of title glory come May, while Forest remain embroiled in a relegation skirmish despite an improved showing. Both will now turn attentions to forthcoming fixtures to keep their 2023/2024 ambitions alive.
Liverpool’s next fixture is the first leg of their Europa League round of 16 clash against Sparta Prague. Meanwhile, Forest’s upcoming match sees them travelling to Brighton and Hove Albion next weekend in the EPL.
