September 09, (THEWILL) — Nottingham Forest manager, Nuno Espirito Santo, faces departure from his role following a breakdown in relations with club ownership and management structure. The Portuguese coach publicly acknowledged that his previously close relationship with owner, Evangelos Marinakis, had deteriorated significantly during the current campaign.
The situation escalated after Nuno admitted at a press conference that communication with Marinakis had become distant compared to their daily contact throughout the previous season. Despite the owner’s subsequent public backing on August 29, tensions remained unresolved between the coaching staff and the club hierarchy.
Reports indicate a significant dispute between Nuno and Edu, the former Arsenal Technical Director, who joined Forest as global Head of Football in July. This conflict has contributed to growing discontent regarding squad preparation and transfer activity ahead of the new season.
Nuno transformed Forest’s fortunes after replacing Steve Cooper in December 2023, guiding the club from relegation concerns to seventh place and European qualification. The team accumulated 65 points during his first full campaign, qualifying for UEFA Europa League football for the first time since 1996.
Current form has declined with Forest collecting just four points from three matches this season, including a recent 3-0 defeat to West Ham United. Nuno had previously expressed concerns about squad readiness, describing the situation as a “major problem” before the campaign began.
