September 02, (THEWILL) –Â The Portuguese manager of Tottenham Hotspur, Nuno Espirito Santo, who was appointed at the end of June, as THEWILL reported, and who has impressively seen to a brilliant start to the season for the north London English Premier League side, has been nominated for EPL Manager of the Month for August.
THEWILL recalls that Nuno at Spurs maintained a 100% record with three consecutive wins in their opening games of this campaign. They began most formidably by defeating English champions Manchester City in the opening tie and followed that by victories away to Wolverhampton Wanderers and at home to Watford, all 1-nil wins.
Despite having to contend with the negative attention brought on by the Harry Kane transfer saga, Nuno’s Spurs side have not allowed any of that to distract them from the business of pursuing their targets this season and they have begun that race with three clean sheets.
Their perfect start to the season elevated them to the top of the Premier League table and they are now the only side with a 100% record at this early stage of the new season.
Over at Stratford, London, Moyes’ West Ham have also seen a good start to the campaign which is why they are in second place. Two wins, a draw and an impressive 10 goals in three matches is how they have begun the season and Moyes has been recognised for the early impact.
He started the season overseeing his Hammers team come from behind to beat Newcastle 4-2 at St James’ Park and then impressively scored another four against Leicester. The Scot has already won 10 manager of the month awards, behind only EPL manager icons Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger.
The dominance of the London clubs is clear as Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has also been nominated. The strength of their defensive capabilities was on show again as they began the season with two clean sheets until a penalty at Liverpool breached their goal.
The German manager won his first Premier League manager of the month prize in March last season and was nominated again thanks to wins over Crystal Palace and Arsenal, and a 1-1 draw with a resurgent Liverpool at Anfield even though Chelsea had to play the second half with 10 men.
The other nominee is the veteran EPL Everton manager Rafa Benitez, who has begun a solid premiership project at Everton, which promises to spring some surprises as the season progresses after play resumes after the international break.
In his time in the EPL, Benitez had won manager of the month awards at Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle and could now get another with a fourth club. His Everton team has also won two games and drawn one so far, beating Brighton and Southampton in the process.
