May 18, (THEWILL) – Blessing Oborududu, Nigeria’s Olympic silver medalist in the Wrestling event, will compete at the African Wrestling Championships in El Jadida, Morocco, for an 11th consecutive medal.
Oborududu finished second against Tamyra Mensah-Stock of the United States in the women’s under-68 kg final at the postponed Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games last year, earning one of Nigeria’s only two medals.
Since her first championship in 2010, the 33-year-old has been a dominant force at the continental level, winning 10 gold medals at the African Championships.
Apart from Oborududu, Nigeria’s Odunayo Adekuoroye, a World Championship silver medalist, will also compete in the women’s 59kg event, hoping to win her sixth continental title.
For the first time since missing out on a medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, the Nigerian wrestler will be back competing in another continental wrestling event. In the run-up to the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, Adekuoroye will be hoping to finish on top of the podium for the third time.
