BEVERLY HILLS, May 26, (THEWILL) – Jose Mourinho has signed a three-year deal signed with Manchester United, for £30 million accepting a three-year deal worth £12 million-a-year.
The 53-year-old Portuguese agreed terms to become Louis van Gaal’s successor and manage the lads at Old Trafford bringing an end to speculations of his engagement.
He returns to coaching after he was sacked by Chelsea in December, 2015, following a disappointment on his second spell at Stanford Bridge.
Rio Ferdinand, Manchester United legend, expressed joy at Mourinho’s arrival and took to his social media accounts to welcome Mourinho to the club.
“Congratulations to Jose on being announced manager of the biggest club in the world! This is Jose Mourinho’s most exciting and most challenging job yet,” he wrote.
“One thing I can tell Manchester United fans is that they have got themselves a true winner in all aspects. His CV shows success!”
United had to secure the rights to Mourinho’s autograph and his own name, which was trademarked in 2005 by Roman Abramovich, the owner of Chelsea football club, and was not due to expire until the year 2025.
