May 20, (THEWILL) – Organisers of the prestigious Okpekpe International 10km Road Race have unveiled unique commemorative medals just days before the 10th edition in Okpekpe town, Edo State, Nigeria.
Pamodzi Sports Marketing highlighted the medals’ original design befitting the race’s status as West Africa’s first World Athletics gold label event. Race director Zack Amodu explained the medals celebrate a decade of organising a world-class race without controversies.
“Our race evolved from bronze label in 2015 to silver in 2018 and gold in 2023 after a COVID-19 hiatus, setting the pace for others in Nigeria and West Africa,” he said. The green and gold medals feature the race logo and number 10, symbolising this historic 10th anniversary.
Amodu stressed the importance of the medals connecting sports, heroism and national identity. Crafted from unique brass alloys plated in gold, silver or bronze, they will be awarded to runners based on finish times and attending celebrities. “We are ready to deliver another spectacular Okpekpe event on Saturday, befitting our gold label status,” he assured.
The 10th Okpekpe International 10km Road Race is billed to hold on May 25 and promises a true celebration of the long-distance sport. Featuring a unique hilly and tarred course measured by certified officials, it welcomes everyone to witness world-class racing in the Nigerian town.
