October 18, (THEWILL) – Marcus Rashford’s camp is furious with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after the Norwegian suggested that the England forward “prioritize his football” ahead of Manchester United’s Premier League loss to Leicester on Saturday.
THEWILL recalls that Rashford made his long-awaited return from shoulder surgery, which he underwent following England’s Euro 2020 campaign in the summer.
After coming off the bench, he made an almost instant impact, racing through on goal and making it 2-2 at the King Power Stadium with an emphatic finish. Despite the fact that United went on to lose 4-2, Rashford’s return was encouraging, and should be enough to make him play again in the Champions League on Wednesday night against Atalanta.
According to the Athletic, the England international’s camp is dissatisfied with Solskjaer’s suggestion prior to the defeat that Rashford should concentrate on football.
Rashford, who has received an MBE and an honorary doctorate from Manchester University, has tirelessly campaigned against food poverty in the United Kingdom, famously forcing the government to reverse its position on providing free school meals last year.
His work has prompted calls for him to focus on his Manchester United commitments, and his supporters are irritated that Solskjaer has resurrected the stale debate. In his defence, the manager claims that the comments were meant as compliments.
Regardless of intent, many fans are dissatisfied that Solskjaer made headlines ahead of such a crucial match for what was unnecessary and distracting.
Since stepping up his campaigning in recent months, Rashford has shown little sign of not being fully committed to the cause at Old Trafford. During the 2020/21 Premier League season, he only missed one game, scoring 11 goals and providing the same number of assists.
He even played through painful injuries to help his team in recent seasons, and he has also returned to fitness ahead of schedule on several occasions, similarly as he did by being fit enough to play and score on Saturday.
