Onuachu

February 27, (THEWILL) – Paul Onuachu of the Super Eagles scored the first goal and assisted the second as Genk defeated Kortrijk 2-0.

The Smurfs came into the match on the back of a defeat against Jupiler League rivals Anderlecht, but they still had a better record than their opponents, who had lost four of their previous five games.

As expected, Genk took the lead early in the game. After keeping possession of the ball and attempting to split Kortrijk’s backline, they were rewarded by their Nigerian forward who put his height advantage to good use.

Onuachu rose highest to meet a cross from Junya Ito and headed home from a swarm of defenders in the 17th minute, capping off a great start for Genk.

Onuachu turned provider less than five minutes later, setting up Joseph Paintsil, who scored from close range to give the Beker Van Belgie champions a two-goal advantage.

If in the first half, Genk were unplayable, the intensity eased off in the second half.

Onuachu’s side still had six shots on target, compared to the visitors’ one in the first 45 minutes, while playing a more comfortable game in the second, though they maintained a tight defense line to protect their lead.
