January 30, (THEWILL) – Paul Onuachu’s double helped Genk comfortably beat Seraing 4-0 at their home, Luminus Arena grounds of the Belgian First Division A late on Sunday.
Genk took the lead early on through a penalty from the Nigerian forward and never looked back then though Seraing coach Legros had clear intentions to frustrate their attack by starting with a 4-5-1 formation and benching striker Vagner. However, this plan quickly collapsed as Genk took a comfortable lead within the first quarter of the match.
Bilal El Khannouss supplied the assist that saw Mike Trésor score a beautiful goal to make it 2-0. Genk took their foot off the gas after this two-goal lead and allowed Seraing to have a few attempts on goal. However, Onuachu sealed the win with another goal in the second half, this time Trésor provided the assist.
The difference between the two teams was clear on the field and in the league standings. Genk’s victory allowed them to extend their lead at the top of the table to six points ahead of their match against Eupen on Wednesday.
Genk manager Wouter Vrancken made five substitutions during the match, including bringing on Mbwana Samatta for Onuachu four minutes after the hour mark, with an eye on that tie against Eupen as they look to consolidate top spot.
