March 12, (THEWILL) – Nigeria’s Technical Adviser, Augustine Eguavoen, has informed Super Eagles’ supporters that he is keeping track of every player deserving of a call-up to the national team of Nigeria.
As THEWILL reported, Eguavoen has already named his squad for the double-header Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup playoff against the Black Stars of Ghana, which includes the majority of the players who competed in the TotalEnergies 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
The two new faces in the team are former England youth international, Ademola Lookman and FC Copenhagen newcomer, Akinkunmi Amoo, with Eguavoen revealing that he will keep a careful eye on the latter when the Super Eagles camp begins.
Despite the fact that Amoo is a talented player, his first call-up to the Super Eagles was contentious, to say the least, because he had been out of the game for no less than three months.
“Now, all these boys that are coming, apart from the ones that are on standby, like the young one from Denmark, is an opportunity to watch them closely”, Eguavoen explained.
“We have the eleven that will start, we have the ones that will stop them to see how far the fitness level is. The camp or the opportunity is still very wide open for everyone.
“We don’t need distractions, all we need is support to cross this hurdle and opportunity to bring in one, two or three players that we can have a look at. Unfortunately, COVID-19 has disrupted a whole lot of things so there are no much windows to start trying players.”
When Nigeria plays Ghana in the pair of March matches, there will be zero tolerance for error or experimentation, as a spot in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar is on the line and Nigerians will be expecting nothing less than clinching one of the five African tickets to Qatar.
