January 29, (THEWILL) – In a game preceded by an emotional memorial to Kety Pulido, who captained the team to its first Copa de la Reina in 1994 and died away this week, Barça women continued their relentless march through the Liga Iberdrola with an Asisat Oshoala hattrick against Real Betis for a 4-nil win.
The club also displayed the Spanish Super Cup trophy that they won last week in Madrid and were immediately into the fray.
Nigerian forward Oshoala was in outstanding form throughout, and she provided the game’s first goal off a Graham Hansen pass with only 18 minutes on the clock.
In an almost identical move, Lieke Martens provided the Super Falcons’ captain with the assist for the second goal seven minutes after the half-hour mark to give the hosts a comfortable two-goal cushion.
And, just before halftime, Oshoala completed her first half hattrick with a beautiful turn around her opponent on the edge of the area. It was her 101st league goal for the Catalan champions and rounded up the striker’s sterling overall display.
In the second half, the Catalans proceeded to suffocate their opponents, with Lieke Martens setting up replacement Fridolina Rolfö for goal number four thanks to a Dutch-Swedish combination.
Barça continues to lead the league with 18 wins in 18 games and a staggering goal difference of 102-4.
