
September 6, (THEWILL) – Barcelona Femeni and Super Falcons striker, Asisat Oshoala, has received a nomination for the 2023 Women’s Ballon d’Or.
Oshoala, known for her vital contributions to Nigeria’s national team and her exceptional performances in Spain, continues to earn deserved recognition. The former Arsenal player was previously nominated for the 2023 Socrates Award, and her excellence has now earned her a place among the esteemed nominees for the Women’s Ballon d’Or.
She will compete against talented players like Linda Caicedo, Rachel Daly, Alba Redondo, Mary Earps and others for the prestigious award. In the 2021/2022 season, the ex-Liverpool star was the top Liga F scorer with 20 goals and four assists in 19 appearances. Last season, she continued her form, notching 21 goals and three assists in 28 domestic matches along with five goals in nine UEFA Women’s Champions League games.
Despite fitness issues, Oshoala also impressed at the Women’s World Cup, scoring against Australia to help Nigeria win. She will now look to compete against peers for the 2023 Women’s Ballon d’Or with her nomination for the coveted prize.
