February 02, (THEWILL) – Barcelona Femení continued their winning streak with a 4-0 victory over Valencia that took their unprecedented record to 52 league wins in a row.
The game got off to a flying start with Aitana Bonmatí’s shot brilliantly saved in the first move of the game. Moments later, Fridolina Rolfö converted Asisat Oshoala’s pass to give the visitors the perfect start.
The Super Falcons’ forward, who had back-to-back hat-tricks in their last two matches then made it 2-0 after a quarter of an hour with some great build-up play from Nuria Rábano. Marta Torrejon added a third goal before the half-time whistle.
The second half saw Bonmati finding the net to extend Barcelona’s lead after just two minutes of the restart, but Valencia’s keeper, Enith Salón, put up a strong fight to prevent any further goals and prevent the free-scoring Barca side from peppering them with a truckload of goals. Rolfö’s efforts notwithstanding, she was denied a brace by the woodwork.
With this victory, Barca have reached the midway point of the season without dropping a single point, further solidifying their dominance of the league and assuring their title defence potential.
