Oshoala

May 05, (THEWILL) – Barcelona Femeni won yet again on Thursday against Sevilla, this time with a comeback and with Asisat Oshoala and Toni Payne on the scoresheet for both sides.

Sevilla took the lead against the run of play in the first half, but Barcelona came out in the second half and scored five goals on the bounce to earn another three points and finish the game 5-1.

Melanie Serrano’s free-kick put the away goalkeeper, Esther Sullastres, to the test early on. That set the tone for the rest of the first half, as she showed she could handle anything Barca threw at her.

Sevilla’s first chance came after 27 minutes, with Gemma Font stopping the dangerous Nigerian forward Toni Payne from scoring. Barca’s finest effort came from Claudia Pina, who hit the post, but despite dominating, they were unable to score.

Payne was allowed the space to exploit around the penalty box before firing across the goal into the far right corner to put Sevilla ahead 1-0 and that was how the first half ended.

The hosts came out of the break with a genuine drive to win and keep their unbeaten run going. In the 58th minute, Pina bundled in a pass from Mariona Caldentey from the left after the pressure had built up to level the scores 1-1.

Alexia Putellas and Aitana Bonmati came on to provide some significant firepower, and it was not long before Oshoala made it 2-1 by dinking it past Sullastres after a through pass.

Barca were in complete control of the game at that point, and Putellas scored on 78 minutes following a one-two with Pina, which was also Barça’s 200th goal in all competitive matches this season.

Caldentey scored after another cross from the left, this time by Putellas, as the team sensed more goals. Jenni Hermoso got in on the act as well, earning another assist from Pina to make it 5-1 and 28 wins in 28 in the league this season.
