September 29, (THEWILL) – Barcelona Femeni, the defending Primera Iberdrola champions, put on another incredible performance on Wednesday, defeating Villarreal 8-0 to continue their unbeatable start to the season and their continued supremacy from the previous campaign.
It was matchday four of the 2021/2022 season but, the ladies who scored an unprecedented tally of 167 goals while letting in only 15 the entire last season that was only sullied by one loss in 34 matches, have simply picked up from where they stopped.
Before the 8-nil drubbing of Villarreal at their Ciudad Deportiva Villarreal CF grounds, the Barca ladies were already on a goal cruise having netted 18 goals in their first three fixtures with six coming from Oshoala’s boots, and kept clean sheets in every match so far played.
At Villarreal, for a quarter of an hour, the home team held out, but Lieke Martens scored the first goal, and Alexia Putellas increased the lead shortly before the half-hour mark. It was a case of complete Blaugrana dominance, and Marta Torrejón was able to add a third from a wonderful Oshoala assist before the break.
Rather than slackening, Barca stepped up their game after the interval, scoring three more goals in ten minutes. Alexia converted Caroline Graham Hansen’s assist after Aitana Bonmati headed in one of the goals. Then, in the 56th minute, Oshoala added her name to the scoresheet as well.
However, with ten minutes remaining, the Nigerian would double her score with an acrobatic finish off a Martens cross, with the Dutch international closing off a remarkable display with Barca’s ninth goal of the game to bring the whitewash to an end.
