November 10, (THEWILL) – A dramatic extra-time victory saw Washington Spirit defeat Bay FC 2-1 in Sunday’s National Women’s Soccer League playoff match, with Trinity Rodman’s influential cross leading to the winning goal at Audi Field.
The match remained goalless for 82 minutes until Bay FC broke through when Asisat Oshoala finished with precision from Penelope Hocking’s cross. The movement started on the left flank, where Alyssa Malonson’s delivery found Hocking unmarked at the far post before she created the opportunity for Oshoala.
Washington Spirit responded rapidly, with Tara McKeown drawing the team’s level three minutes later. The converted defender demonstrated excellent anticipation to intercept a clearance before advancing and striking precisely into the bottom left corner from 18 yards out.
The match-winning moment occurred six minutes into extra time through Rodman’s threatening cross, which Bay FC defender Caprice Dydasco inadvertently directed into her own net.
