August 11, (THEWILL) – Serie A title holders, Napoli, continued their pre-season preparations with a 2-0 victory over Cypriot side, Apollon Limassol, in a friendly match on Friday.
Goals from Victor Osimhen and Giovanni Simeone secured the win for Napoli at the Castel di Sangro training ground. Osimhen opened the scoring in the first half after good work down the left from Kvicha Kvaratskhelia set up Matias Olivera to assist the Nigerian striker.
Simeone then avoided the offside trap to double Napoli’s lead, meeting a ball over the top from Juan Jesus. There was also a debut for new signing Jens Cajuste. The Swedish midfielder almost created a third goal in stoppage time, but Alessio Zerbin’s header was cleared off the line. Despite not getting on the scoresheet, Cajuste’s performance was promising on his first appearance for the club.
With the Serie A season opener away to Frosinone just over a week away, manager Rudi Garcia will be pleased with his side’s performance and fitness levels. The victory over Apollon Limassol provides further momentum as Napoli look to defend their league title this season.
The Partenopei kickoff their defence of the Scudetto when they face Frosinone at the Stadio Benito Stirpe on Saturday, August 19 at 5:30 pm.
