March 09, (THEWILL) – Napoli’s Victor Osimhen continues to make waves in the football world with his recent Player of the Month win for February, in Italy.
The striker scored in all six matches he played in the month under review, earning him the prestigious award. This latest recognition of Osimhen’s prodigy comes just days after the Nigerian international was named the 2022 Best Foreign Athlete Award winner.
The young football star has also recently received other notable accolades, including the Emerging Player of the Year Award at the 2022 Globe Awards and the 2021/2022 Serie A Young Player of the Year Award. With 19 goals under his belt so far, Osimhen is currently the leading scorer in Serie A this season for table-topping Napoli.
He is also a top contender for the highly-coveted CAF Player of the Year Award, which recognises the best African footballer. Additionally, Osimhen is set to make history as the first African to be crowned Goal King in Italy.
The Capocannoniere award, also known as Paolo Rossi Award since 2021, is awarded by the Italian Footballers’ Association (AIC) to the highest goalscorer of the season in the Serie A. The award is currently held by Ciro Immobile, who scored 27 goals for Lazio in the 2021/2022 season.
