April 22, (THEWILL) – On Thursday, 150 players from the South East and South-South zones descended on Owerri for the second edition of the Owerri Basketball Classics, which began on Thursday at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri, Imo State.
The championship, which is being organised by the Imo State Basketball Association in collaboration with the South East Basketball Zone, got underway in the Eastern Heartland on Wednesday, April 20th, 2022, when players and officials from all of the competing teams arrived in the Imo State capital.
Teams led by Imo State Basketball Chairman Kelechi Anosike and former Nigerian international Kelechi Anuna, as well as 14 others (current and retired players) from the zones in the South East and South South regions, will compete over four days.
The presence of former D’Tigress captain Joyce Ekworomadu, serial Afrobasket winners Ndidi Madu and Adaora Elonu, who will join Chukwudi Maduabum, Ike Diogu, Stan Okoye, Ekene Ibekwe, Ifunanya Ibekwe, and Obi Emegano, confirms its promise to be even more exciting than the first.
